INVITATION
International Scholarly Conference
“Reimagining and Rebuilding Palestine: Genocide, Trauma, and the Future of a Suffering Nation”
30–31 January 2026 | University of Cyprus, Nicosia | 09:00–19:30
The Universitas Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, is pleased to announce the International Scholarly Conference entitled:
Reimagining and Rebuilding Palestine:
Genocide, Trauma, and the Future of a Suffering Nation
The conference will be held on 30 and 31 January 2026 at the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, from 09:00 to 19:30 on both days. The conference sessions will be held in Room 010 (“Evi Sofianou”, SFC07), located in the Social Activities Building 07, within the University of Cyprus campus (1 Panepistimiou Avenue, Aglantzia, Nicosia).
The conference is organised with the support of the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW), the Cyprus Academic Dialogue, the Diplomatic Academy, as well as the Department of Social and Political Sciences, the Department of Education, the Department of Law, the Department of Turkish and Middle Eastern Studies, and the Department of English Studies of the University of Cyprus.
This international academic gathering is conceived as a rigorous interdisciplinary forum for critical scholarly inquiry into the contemporary Palestinian condition. It addresses key issues including genocide, mass and intergenerational trauma, forced displacement, political violence, historical memory, cultural destruction, as well as the normative, institutional, and ethical dimensions of reconstruction and justice.
Bringing together established scholars from a broad range of disciplines —such as history, political science, international law, sociology, psychology, cultural and trauma studies, and heritage studies— the conference seeks to foster analytically grounded dialogue that combines empirical research, theoretical reflection, and normative critique.
The programme comprises keynote lectures, thematic panels, and selected cultural events, providing a structured space for scholarly exchange while situating academic analysis within its wider social, political, and cultural contexts.
