AIM
To develop a comprehensive understanding of narcissism, its origins, and its psychopathological dimensions.
OBJECTIVES
• To provide an overview of narcissism, its manifestations, and key conceptual distinctions
• To examine the developmental and psychological roots of narcissism
• To discuss clinical issues associated with narcissistic personality functioning
• To distinguish between healthy narcissism in childhood and pathological narcissism in adulthood, particularly in relation to Narcissistic Personality Disorder
TARGET AUDIENCE
Psychologists, psychotherapists, mental health counsellors, social workers, educators, HR professionals, students of the social sciences and humanities, as well as anyone interested in the psychology of relationships and interpersonal dynamics.
SPEAKER
Dr Maria Luca has served as Head of the School of Psychotherapy & Psychology and as a Senior Research Fellow at Regent’s University London. She is the founder of the Regent’s Centre for Relational Studies and Psychological Well-Being, former Head of the PhD Programme in Psychotherapy & Psychology, and former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Psychological Therapies.
She has extensive clinical experience within the UK’s National Health Service and is a UKCP- and MBACP-accredited senior psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. Dr Luca is a relational psychotherapist and the founder of Dr Maria Luca & Associates and Olympus Psychotherapy.
Her professional career spans more than 30 years. She has edited two influential volumes—The Integrative Frame and Sexual Attraction in Therapy—and co-authored a third book, Integration in Psychotherapy: New Directions. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has served as an editorial board member, consulting editor, reviewer, and endorser of books for international academic publications.
Dr Luca has taught at several British universities, delivered presentations internationally, supervised numerous PhD candidates through to completion, and served as a doctoral examiner. She currently works as a consultant and team coach at Olympus Psychotherapy in London.
